There were many tearful goodbyes from the older girls at the Internat. Katerina did very well all afternoon, even though she skipped her nap. She was drinking in all the sights, sounds, smells, and experiences of the city. She ate a good dinner of borscht and carrot/garlic salad. We rode the bus to our host family's house.
This is when Katerina finally broke down in sobs. The poor girl - she is separated from her "older sisters" and her world is turned upside down.
We Skyped later with Elena and Juliana. This was there first chance to see their new sister. Elena was only briefly interested. Juliana waved and waved and was very excited. Juliana blew Ezra a kiss and Katerina responded by kissing Ezra all over the face. I sense some sibling rivalry already starting.
Ezra - I can't help but think about those times in the past - oh, 5 years ago or so.....when we had ongoing email conversations about your prayerful hope for a different life. You longed for a companion - a wife specifically. You hoped it would involve having children. You wondered about graduating from college and what high tech computer position you might end up with despite your giddiness for children and babies. Those days were challenging because you hoped but you couldn't see how the path could end up there. Baby steps....prayer....learning to be open to the unexpected....it all seems so long ago now. The path veered when you intersected with Kelly...and it has been a wild and crazy ride ever since. You two have become the dynamic duo! I can't imagine the challenges you have already faced and will continue to face as your raise these children but I know that you have changed the course of their life...and they you. They say love conquers all and you seem to live it out on a daily basis! Margie
